Aanvullende informatie

Jaap Eden was arguably the greatest Dutch speed skater of the nineteenth century — world champion in both speed skating and cycling in the same year, 1896, a combination unlikely to be repeated. The rink bearing his name in Amsterdam opened in 1961 and remains the country's principal indoor speed skating venue. This coin was issued as part of the Netherlands' ongoing commemorative five-euro circulation series, struck in silver-plated copper rather than silver proper, making it legally spendable but practically collected rather than spent.
