Germany's polymer-ring 5 Euro collector series, launched in 2016, was an intentional hybrid: a circulation-legal denomination that nobody actually spent. The seven-spot ladybird is the sixth insect subject in the "Wonderful World" subseries, which cycles through native fauna with the ring color keyed to habitat — green for terrestrial species. Production is divided among all five German mints (A, D, F, G, J), making mint-mark variants a quiet collecting discipline within the series.
The CuNi center is struck separately from the colored polycarbonate ring, then press-fitted — a process developed specifically for this series after the Bundesbank rejected earlier adhesive prototypes.
