| 裏面の説明 | Carmen, the celebrated protagonist of Georges Bizet's eponymous opera, is depicted in dynamic full figure at centre, dressed in a flamenco gown adorned with a large rose on the skirt, her body turned in mid-dance as she holds an open fan aloft. The design evokes the dramatic spirit of the 1875 opera in a fluid, contemporary engraving style. The denomination 5 EURO appears at upper left, flanked by the mint mark R, while the commemorative dates 1875 · 2025 and the inscriptions BIZET and D. LONGO M.C.INC. are arranged in the field. |

San Marino's long-running series of commemorative silver issues honoring composers reaches Bizet in 2025 — a composer whose reputation rested almost entirely on a single opera that flopped at its 1875 Paris premiere. Carmen was received so poorly that Bizet died three months later, reportedly convinced it was a failure. Within a year of his death, it had become one of the most performed operas in the world.
