| Reverse description | The reverse presents five stylized abstract athlete figures rendered in a modern graphic idiom, arranged dynamically around the central denomination numeral '5' with the word EURO below it. The figures, depicted in a minimalist line-art style, represent various sporting disciplines of the Games of the Small States of Europe. The circular legend GIOCHI DEI PICCOLI STATI D'EUROPA arcs along the upper periphery, while SAN MARINO 2017 is inscribed along the lower border. The designer's initials ES (Erik Spiekermann) and the Rome Mint mark R appear in the lower field to the left and right respectively. |

| Additional information |
San Marino has participated in the Games of the Small States of Europe since the inaugural edition in 1985, an event conceived specifically for nations whose size made Olympic-level competition structurally unequal. The 2017 games were held in San Marino itself — one of the few times the republic hosted — which likely drove the decision to issue a commemorative at all.
KM#565 is a relatively modest issue by San Marino's prolific commemorative output, a mint that produces collector coinage at volumes that routinely dwarf the republic's actual population of roughly 34,000.
