The text reads: 1544 · · BVDA · POTENS · ET · PANNONV · GENS · MARTIA · REGNI · QVOD · FVIT · ESSET · SI · VIVERET · ISTE · · PUER, with the initials V G appearing at the base, likely identifying the medallist or issuing authority. The inscription is set in well-spaced Roman capitals with decorative stops between words, typical of humanist Renaissance medallic epigraphy. This reverse functions as a memorial epitaph to Louis II, who perished at the Battle of Mohács in 1526, and was struck under Ferdinand I as a retrospective commemorative piece. |
