The effigy occupies the central field, enclosed by a bold beaded border. | Beschrijving keerzijde | A panoramic allegorical landscape scene depicting a hilly terrain with sparse vegetation in the foreground, and a radiant sun setting or descending below the horizon at the lower right, its rays spreading dramatically across the open field. The composition alludes to the close of the Duke's life. The engraver's initial K. appears in a small cartouche at the base, below a horizontal ground line, all within a beaded border. The Latin motto VIRTVTIBVS OCCVPAT ORBEM arcs along the upper legend, translating as 'By virtues he conquers the world.' |
