| Obverse description | Draped and armored bust of Duke Ernest Louis of Saxe-Meiningen facing right, with long flowing curled wig rendered in high relief, wearing a cuirass with decorative shoulder pauldron. The effigy occupies the central field, enclosed by a bold beaded border. The circumferential Latin legend records the Duke's titles and biographical dates, reading from upper left around the full periphery: ERNEST LVD D S I C M A ET W NAT 18 OCT 1672 DEN 24 NOV 1724, commemorating his birth on 18 October 1672 and death on 24 November 1724. |
