This piece has no official connection to the West German government or the Bundesbank. The "Aureus Magnus" series was issued by a private firm exploiting the Olympic year for bullion sales — the Federal Republic of Germany did not produce a 5 Ducat denomination in 1964, and "Ducat" had no place in postwar West German currency. These were struck for the collector and gift trade, capitalizing on the Tokyo Games without any state authorization.
