Obverse lettering DENKMAL DER DREISSIGTAUSEND BAIERN WELCHE IM RUSS. KRIEGE DEN TOD FANDEN. / V. LUDWIG I. KÖNIG V. BAIERN
Reverse description The reverse features an entirely typographic design with no central pictorial device. In the field, three lines of boldly incused Latin text read 'T. ERTEL / IN / MÜNCHEN. / 1833.' identifying the engraver and place and date of manufacture. The peripheral legend, distributed around the full circumference, reads 'PROBE DES THALERPRÄGWERKS F. D. KÖN. MÜNZE IN GRIECHENLAND.' — identifying the piece as a trial strike of the thaler coining press intended for the Royal Mint in Greece. The overall composition is austere and purely documentary in character, consistent with its function as a technical proof piece.
