| Obverse description | Central design features a tall obelisk monument rising from a multi-tiered stepped pedestal, rendered in fine relief against a plain field. The pedestal bears a small dedicatory inscription reading 'V. LUDWIG I. KÖNIG V. BAIERN'. To either side of the obelisk shaft, the commemorative text 'WELCHE IM RUSS. / KRIEGE DEN TOD / FANDEN.' is inscribed in the field in two columns. The peripheral legend, reading clockwise around the upper and lateral borders, states 'DENKMAL DER DREISSIGTAUSEND BAIERN' — a memorial dedication to the thirty thousand Bavarians who perished in the Russian campaign. |
