| Obverse description | Armored bust of Giovanni Galeazzo Maria Sforza facing left, depicted in Renaissance style within a raised beaded inner circle. The duke wears a visored helmet and articulated plate armor, rendered with considerable detail characteristic of late 15th-century Milanese die-cutting. A crowned Visconti serpent device appears at the top of the field between the inner and outer legends. The circumferential Latin legend reads IOANNES G3 M SF VICECOS DVX MLI SXT, identifying the ruler as Duke of Milan, separated from the central portrait by a finely executed beaded border. |
