| Obverse description | The obverse features the national coat of arms of Palau at center, depicting a traditional sailing canoe above a shield enclosing a figure of the local deity with a sea turtle and marine imagery, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The shield is surmounted by a nautical star and flanked by decorative scrollwork. The legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by a row of raised stars on either side. The inscription RAINBOW'S END appears within the lower portion of the shield, and the denomination 5$ is struck in the lower field below the coat of arms. |

Kinderdijk's 19 windmills, built in the 1740s to drain the Alblasserwaard polder, remain operational and were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Palau has issued dozens of these topographic silver pieces under licensing arrangements that have no connection to the featured country — the Netherlands has no involvement in this coin's production or authorization.
