| 表面の説明 | The central field displays the shield-shaped coat of arms of the Republic of Palau, depicting a crowned Neptune-like figure seated and holding a trident, accompanied by a mermaid, with a treasure chest and marine motifs; a star and crescent moon appear above. A traditional outrigger canoe is shown above the shield. The motto RAINBOW'S END appears on a scroll at the base of the arms. Eight five-pointed stars are arranged around the periphery of the field, and the legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper rim, with the denomination 5$ inscribed at the bottom. |

Palau has built a cottage industry issuing commemorative silver dollars for virtually any licensable subject, and the Volkswagen Beetle was an obvious target — the car's global recognizability makes it reliable seller territory for Pacific island numismatic programs that exist almost entirely for collector revenue rather than circulation. The Beetle license has appeared across multiple issuing authorities in the early 2010s.
Palau's fiscal arrangement allows it to issue legal tender coinage through third-party minting contracts, most commonly routed through European private mints. This piece almost certainly never touched the island.
