The USS New Jersey (BB-62) holds the distinction of being the most decorated battleship in U.S. Navy history, earning battle stars across four conflicts — World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Lebanon. The Marshall Islands operated an aggressive commemorative coin program throughout the 1990s, licensing American military and pop-culture subjects to generate government revenue, with most pieces struck by the British Royal Mint or its contractors and sold directly to collectors rather than circulated.
BB-62 was reactivated for the last time in 1982, decommissioned in 1991, and opened as a museum ship in Camden, New Jersey in 2001.
