Issued to mark Singapore's entry into 2000, this coin reflects the city-state's deliberate policy of using commemorative circulation coinage as soft-power currency — a practice the Monetary Authority had refined through the 1990s. The bimetallic format was already established in Singapore's regular coinage by this point, making the choice here functional rather than novel.
