Obverse description Central field features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Palau, depicting a shield bearing the figure of a sea god holding a trident accompanied by a mermaid amid ocean waves, with a crescent moon and star above, the shield flanked by decorative floral and figural supporters. A traditional outrigger canoe appears above the shield. The legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper rim, with eight small six-pointed stars arranged symmetrically in the field to either side of the shield. The motto RAINBOW'S END appears on a scroll at the base of the shield, and the denomination 5$ is inscribed in the lower field.
