Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse commemorates the 50th anniversary of Singapore Airlines with a bold central design featuring a detailed depiction of a Singapore Airlines Boeing 747 wide-body jet aircraft in three-quarter view, the airline's livery and tail insignia clearly rendered. Behind and around the aircraft, large stylised numerals '50TH' dominate the upper and central field, integrating the aircraft into the anniversary numeral composition. The legend SINGAPORE AIRLINES curves along the upper rim within a recessed banner, while ANNIVERSARY is inscribed below the aircraft. The denomination $5 appears prominently in the lower central field, and the anniversary dates 1947-1997 are inscribed along the lower rim. The inner design area is separated from the reeded edge by a decorative milled border band.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark Singapore Airlines' 50th anniversary, this coin commemorates the carrier's origins as Malayan Airways, founded in 1947 as a joint venture between British Overseas Airways Corporation, Qantas, and the Ocean Steamship Company. The airline only became Singapore Airlines in 1972 following the dissolution of the Malaysia-Singapore Airlines partnership — a split driven by the two governments' diverging views on route priorities and national branding.
