Additional information

The Nantan meteorite fell over Guangxi province in southern China in 1516, witnessed and recorded by locals, but wasn't scientifically identified as extraterrestrial until the 1950s. It is one of the largest iron meteorite fields in China, with fragments totaling several tonnes recovered across a wide scatter zone. Palau began embedding genuine meteorite fragments into commemorative silver coins in the mid-2000s, and this 2006 issue contains a small authenticated piece of Nantan material set directly into the coin — making the meteorite itself, not the silver, the primary collectible driver.
