The Velvet Revolution — the nonviolent transfer of power that ended Communist rule in Czechoslovakia in November 1989 — takes its name from a phrase attributed to Rita Klímová, the dissident who served as unofficial translator for the opposition and later became Czechoslovakia's ambassador to the United States. Within six weeks of the first student protests, Václav Havel was president. Niue has become a favored issuing jurisdiction for commemorative silver owing to its favorable licensing arrangements, producing coins with no meaningful domestic circulation.
