Additional information

The Sopwith Camel was responsible for destroying more enemy aircraft than any other Allied fighter in the First World War — over 1,294 confirmed kills — yet it was notoriously unforgiving to inexperienced pilots, killing a significant number of its own through the violent gyroscopic torque of its Clerget rotary engine. More RFC trainees died learning to fly it than many pilots cared to admit in print.

Solomon Islands has issued prolifically in the modern commemorative silver market, acting as a licensing issuer rather than a domestic monetary authority for these pieces. This coin entered a crowded field of WWI centenary issues produced between 2014 and 2018.
