Novosibirsk was founded in 1893 as a crossing point for the Trans-Siberian Railway over the Ob River — a purely logistical origin that somehow produced Russia's third-largest city within a century. Cook Islands silver issues of this format were produced in bulk during the early 2010s under licensing arrangements with European minting houses, typically Mint XXI or B.H.
