Beschrijving keerzijde A herald angel in flowing robes, depicted in profile facing left and sounding a long trumpet, occupies the centre of the star-shaped field. The angel's large wing is rendered with selective gold-coloured enamel or gilding, contrasting with the silver-finished figure and drapery. Seven small gilt stars are scattered across the field around the angel. The Latin inscription GLORIA / IN / EXCELSIS / DEO is engraved in the upper point of the star, while the festive legend MERRY CHRISTMAS 2013 appears in stylised Gothic lettering in the lower left field.

Aanvullende informatie

Cook Islands has issued Christmas-themed collector pieces annually since the 1990s, targeting the gift and novelty bullion market rather than numismatic collectors in any serious sense. The $5 denomination is a legal tender fiction — no one spends these, and the Cook Islands Treasury issues them almost entirely through licensing arrangements with European distributors, primarily Austrian and German firms that handle design, striking, and distribution with minimal involvement from the issuing territory itself.

Pobjoy Mint and B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt have both handled Cook Islands contracts of this type. KM#2072 at 15g is a deliberately lightweight issue, priced for the seasonal gift market.
