The portrait is superimposed over a finely detailed antique-finished cartographic relief map of the region of Thermopylae, depicting topographical features including the Pass of Thermopylae, the Malian Gulf, the Anopaia path, the Persian and Greek camps, the Phocian Wall, and surrounding geographical regions such as Malis, Locris, Doris, and Phocis, with place names inscribed throughout the field.
