| Obverse description | The diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, rendered in high relief after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear beneath the truncation. The portrait is superimposed over a finely detailed antique-finished cartographic relief map of the region of Thermopylae, depicting topographical features including the Pass of Thermopylae, the Malian Gulf, the Anopaia path, the Persian and Greek camps, the Phocian Wall, and surrounding geographical regions such as Malis, Locris, Doris, and Phocis, with place names inscribed throughout the field. The legend ELIZABETH II NIUE arcs along the left and upper periphery, while 5 DOLLARS 2019 arcs along the upper right, with the fineness mark Ag 999 and the Mint of Poland mintmark mw also present in the right field. |
