Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the fourth definitive portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, 5 DOLLARS along the upper field, COOK ISLANDS along the right periphery, and the date 2012 appears in the lower exergue. The mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted relief portrait.

Aanvullende informatie

Cook Islands has issued commemoratives under its own authority since 1972, a quirk of its status as a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand — it controls its own currency while remaining under the New Zealand Crown. The Diamond Jubilee series prompted a wave of such issues across Pacific territories, most struck by the Pobjoy Mint or Perth Mint on contract.

KM#1984 sits in a crowded field; Cook Islands produced dozens of jubilee-themed pieces in 2012, many sharing the same half-ounce silver format.
