Obverse description Central field features the right-facing draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley, surrounded by the legend ELIZABETH II - TOKELAU 2012 within an ornate geometric lattice border. Below the effigy appear the inscriptions Ag925 and FIVE DOLLARS, flanking a small depiction of the Tokelau flag. An outer annular band is divided into twelve segments, each containing the name of a zodiac sign in Latin script alongside a corresponding astrological symbol, interspersed with Cyrillic elemental designations (воздух, вода, огонь, земля) repeating around the ring. The overall design presents a zodiacal calendar wheel framing the royal portrait at its centre.

Additional information

Tokelau's coin program is administered by New Zealand on behalf of the territory, which has no mint of its own and no independent monetary system — these issues are legal tender in name but produced entirely for the collector market. The Gemini release was part of a twelve-coin zodiac series issued that year, each struck to the same specifications under contract with a private mint.

Tokelau itself consists of three atolls in the South Pacific with a combined population under 1,500, making it one of the smallest jurisdictions issuing numismatic products anywhere in the world.
