The 1986 Commonwealth Games were held in Edinburgh — the first time Scotland had hosted since 1970 — and were overshadowed by a politically charged boycott in which 32 nations, predominantly African and Caribbean, refused to participate over Margaret Thatcher's resistance to imposing economic sanctions on apartheid South Africa. The Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory, did not join the boycott and issued this piece as a formal commemorative.
