Beschrijving keerzijde A male long jumper rendered in dynamic mid-flight pose dominates the centre of the field, his arms raised and legs extended in the characteristic hang technique. The curved legend COMMONWEALTH GAMES arcs across the upper field in bold raised lettering. To the right of the athlete, the denomination 5 DOLLARS appears in two lines. Along the lower portion of the field, a stylised take-off board and sand pit are depicted, incorporating the Roman numeral XIII, denoting the 13th Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh in 1986.

Aanvullende informatie

The 1986 Commonwealth Games were held in Edinburgh — the first time Scotland had hosted since 1970 — and were overshadowed by a politically charged boycott in which 32 nations, predominantly African and Caribbean, refused to participate over Margaret Thatcher's resistance to imposing economic sanctions on apartheid South Africa. The Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory, did not join the boycott and issued this piece as a formal commemorative.

KM#80a distinguishes the silver proof from the base-metal circulation strike KM#80, both issued the same year.
