| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Nauru is depicted centrally in the field, featuring a shield supported by two frigate birds with wings raised, a star above the shield, a flowering twig on each side, and a scroll below bearing the national motto. The legend BANK OF NAURU arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, while the date 2009 appears in the lower field beneath the arms. |

| Additional information |
Nauru's bullion coinage from this period was largely produced for the international collector market rather than any domestic monetary function — the island's population of roughly 10,000 had little use for fractional gold. The "Ballerina" series was struck by a private mint for licensed issue under the Bank of Nauru's authority, a common arrangement among Pacific microstates seeking seigniorage revenue from overseas numismatic demand.
At 0.5 grams, the piece contains approximately one sixty-second of a troy ounce of fine gold.
