| Opis rewersu | The convex domed reverse features a vivid pad-printed depiction of the night sky rendered in deep blue and violet hues, upon which the five principal stars of the Crux (Southern Cross) constellation are shown as raised silver-finished star devices of varying sizes. The stars are set within a graduated compass-ring border marked with cardinal directional indicators and calibrated scales. The legend CRUX appears at the top of the border, SOUTHERN SKY along the lower border, with right ascension co-ordinates RA 12h 30m 00s on the left and declination co-ordinates DEC -60° 00' 00'' on the right, providing precise astronomical positioning data for the constellation. |

Released as part of the Royal Australian Mint's Southern Sky domed coin series, this piece was among the earliest curved planchets produced by the RAM — a format that required significant retooling of striking equipment and close collaboration with international minting specialists before production was viable. The pad-printing technique used to apply color to the concave face was, at the time of issue, one of the more technically demanding surface treatments in Australian numismatic production.
Crux — the Southern Cross — carries particular weight in Australian coinage history, having appeared on circulating issues since the colonial period. Its selection for the inaugural domed series was deliberate, not incidental.
