Reverse description Dynamic composite design depicting athletes engaged in the five disciplines of the Modern Pentathlon: an equestrian show-jumper on horseback occupies the upper field, while a runner, a pistol shooter, a fencer in full lunge, and a swimmer are arrayed in overlapping relief below, conveying vigorous athletic movement. Stylised flame motifs fill the background field. In the lower left, the Sydney 2000 Olympic logotype appears in script alongside the five interlocked Olympic rings. The denomination 5 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim in raised lettering.

Additional information

Issued as part of the Royal Australian Mint's extensive Sydney Olympics commemorative program, which ultimately ran to dozens of individual sport-themed coins — one of the largest single-Games numismatic programs any mint had undertaken to that point. Distribution was overwhelmingly through collector sets and mint packaging rather than bank rolls, which means circulated examples are genuinely uncommon despite the high mintages typical of the series.
