| Obverse description | The obverse bears the third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael Maklouf, depicted as a right-facing draped bust wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring with a pearl necklace visible at the truncation. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim and NEW ZEALAND along the upper right rim, with the date 1996 inscribed at the bottom of the field. The designer's initials RDM appear incuse on the truncation. |
