The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2000 divided on either side of the shield and the denomination 5 DOLLARS at the base. A scroll across the upper portion of the arms reads THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, repeated as the national motto within the shield.
