| 裏面の説明 | The central field depicts a dynamic Civil Defence scene set against a stylised urban skyline of high-rise buildings. In the foreground, a helmeted firefighter operates a pneumatic drill, while a paramedic and a colleague attend to a casualty on a stretcher. To the right, a communications mast and the Civil Defence emblem are visible, evoking rescue and emergency response operations. The legend 'CIVIL DEFENCE' arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination '5 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower border, both in incuse lettering within a raised beaded inner circle. |

Issued to mark the 20th anniversary of Singapore's Civil Defence Force, which traces its roots to the 1971 consolidation of fire, ambulance, and civil defence functions under a single command — a reorganisation driven partly by Cold War-era concerns about the vulnerability of a small island state with no strategic depth. Singapore's civil defence planning during this period was unusually serious by regional standards, influenced directly by the government's acute awareness of how quickly the city fell in 1942.
