| Obverse description | The central field displays the coat of arms of Liberia, featuring a shield with a sailing ship, a rising sun, a dove, and a plow, flanked by palm leaves and surmounted by a ribbon. The date is divided on either side of the arms, with the denomination '5 DOLLARS' inscribed below. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs across the upper portion of the field, while the national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' appears along the lower arc. The design is struck on a puzzle-piece shaped flan, with the legends and devices confined within the irregular curved outline of the piece. |

Liberia's coin program in the 2000s was operated almost entirely by foreign minting houses — predominantly German — targeting the collector market rather than domestic circulation. These pieces never functioned as currency in Liberia and were sold directly into the numismatic trade, a practice the Liberian government licensed as a revenue stream during the post-civil war reconstruction period following the end of Charles Taylor's regime in 2003.
