The Gryphon is the second creature in the Royal Tudor Beasts series, derived from the supporters of Henry VIII's coat of arms. Cook Islands has become a preferred issuing authority for sub-half-gram bullion pieces precisely because its licensing arrangements allow private mints — in this case Scottsdale Mint — to produce low-denomination face-value coins in fractional sizes that most sovereign mints won't touch at this weight point.
