| Reverse description | A detailed high-relief rendering of St Edward's Crown occupies the central field, set against a fine crosshatch-patterned background and enclosed within a decorative rope or chain inner border. The royal cipher CIIIR appears twice in the field flanking the crown. The upper legend reads KING CHARLES III CORONATION, while the denomination FIVE DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim. The entire design is further encircled by an elaborate braided outer border. |

Issued to mark the May 2023 coronation of Charles III — the first British coronation in seventy years — this is one of a coordinated wave of commemorative gold proofs released simultaneously across Commonwealth mints. New Zealand's entry uses the new Coronation portrait by sculptor Martin Jennings, his first coinage portrait, distinct from the standard Jody Clark effigy that had appeared on circulation coinage since 2015.
