The Carney/Macklem signature combination places this note in a narrow window — Macklem served as Senior Deputy Governor only until mid-2014, and Carney had already departed for the Bank of England by the time most of these entered circulation. The pairing appears on relatively few notes given the compressed overlap of their tenures.
Canada's shift to polymer with this series drew pointed public criticism over one specific practical complaint: the notes were reported to melt when left in hot vehicles, particularly in western provinces during summer. The Bank of Canada disputed the severity, but the story ran nationally.
