The bank title 'THE MECHANICS BANK' is set in bold serif lettering across the centre, above the promise text 'Will pay Five Dollars to bearer on demand MONTREAL' with a manuscript date of 1st June 1872 and two manuscript signatures for the Cashier and President. A bold numeral '5' occupies a guilloche panel at the upper right, with a smaller '5' counterpart at the lower left. |
