| Beschrijving voorzijde | Printed in dark grey-black intaglio ink on cream-coloured cotton paper, the obverse centres on a large pastoral vignette depicting cattle, a bear, and a farmer with a horse-drawn plough, framed within an elaborate lathe-work guilloche border. The bank title 'THE MECHANICS BANK' is set in bold serif lettering across the centre, above the promise text 'Will pay Five Dollars to bearer on demand MONTREAL' with a manuscript date of 1st June 1872 and two manuscript signatures for the Cashier and President. A bold numeral '5' occupies a guilloche panel at the upper right, with a smaller '5' counterpart at the lower left. |
