Reverse description The reverse is uniformly printed in blue ink and built around a highly ornate guilloche composition centred on an oval cartouche bearing the inscription 'MECHANICS BANK' in raised lettering. Large Roman numeral 'V' devices are set within elaborately engraved rosette panels to the left and right of the central medallion, the entire field enclosed by an intricate lathe-work border characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century American Bank Note Company security printing.
