Essai strikes for Hassan II's first portrait series were produced in limited numbers as pattern submissions and internal approvals — not for circulation. Morocco's 1965 coinage came during a period of significant monetary reorganization following independence, as Bank Al-Maghrib worked to establish a fully sovereign currency infrastructure distinct from the franc-based colonial system. These pieces typically reached only mint officials, select collectors, and the presenting institution.
KM#E46 is among the scarcer Moroccan essais of the decade. The .720 silver specification was ultimately carried through to the circulating issue.
