| Reverse description | Central device features the Royal Arms of the Kingdom of Morocco: a shield bearing a green pentagram on a red field, surmounted by a royal crown and flanked by two rampant lions supporting the escutcheon. A ribbon at the base bears the royal motto in Arabic. The Gregorian year 1965 and the Hijri year 1384 are inscribed in the upper field to the left and right respectively. The denomination, five dirhams expressed as the numeral 5 flanked by the Arabic word for five (خمسة) and the word for dirhams (دراهم), is prominently displayed in the lower field, with the essai (trial) designation (تجربة) above. The design is enclosed within a rope-pattern border. |

Essai strikes for Hassan II's first portrait series were produced in limited numbers as pattern submissions and internal approvals — not for circulation. Morocco's 1965 coinage came during a period of significant monetary reorganization following independence, as Bank Al-Maghrib worked to establish a fully sovereign currency infrastructure distinct from the franc-based colonial system. These pieces typically reached only mint officials, select collectors, and the presenting institution.
KM#E46 is among the scarcer Moroccan essais of the decade. The .720 silver specification was ultimately carried through to the circulating issue.
