| Obverse description | The obverse features four concentric circular legend bands radiating outward from a central point. The innermost circle bears the issuer's name 'CENTRAL BANK OF KUWAIT' in both Arabic and English. The second band carries the commemorative legend 'FIRST ANNIVERSARY LIBERATION OF KUWAIT FEB. 1991' in Arabic and English. The third band bears the Quranic verse 'IF ALLAH BESTOWS VICTORY UPON YOU NONE CAN OVERCOME YOU' in both scripts. The outermost legend band reads 'FROM THE LAND OF KUWAIT GRATITUDE TO ALL WHO HELPED' in Arabic and English. |

Issued to mark the liberation of Kuwait following the seven-month Iraqi occupation that ended in February 1991 with Operation Desert Storm. The Central Bank had itself been looted during the occupation — Iraqi forces removed the gold reserves and disrupted the currency system entirely, making this commemorative issue also a statement of institutional recovery.
