| Descrizione del dritto | Printed in dark green and brown intaglio on a salmon-pink guilloche underprint, the obverse is framed by an elaborate interlocking lathe-work border. A small rosette vignette to the left carries the numeral "5" in intaglio, balanced on the right by a large circular guilloche medallion centred on the same numeral; the bold letterpress inscription "FÜNF DEUTSCHE MARK" spans the central field. The issuing authority legend and the place-date "BERLIN 1955" appear in smaller roman type beneath the denomination. |

Two flanking circular medallions each bearing an intaglio "5" flank the bold central letterpress inscription "FÜNF DEUTSCHE MARK" beneath the heading "BANKNOTE". A three-line anti-counterfeiting warning in small roman type runs across the lower portion of the note, with an additional small rosette medallion bearing the numeral "5" placed outside the main border at the lower right. |
