| Obverse description | Portrait of painter Cândido Torquato Portinari (1903–1962) at centre-right, with an intaglio vignette at left reproducing a detail from his monumental panel Tiradentes (1949). The face value inscriptions of the underlying 5,000 Cruzados note (P#214) are retained, overlaid by a violet triangular overprint stamp bearing the revalued denomination of 5 Cruzados Novos. |

The new denomination overprint is applied over the original face value numerals, which remain legible within the overall design. |
