Obverse description Portrait of painter Cândido Torquato Portinari (1903–1962) at centre-right, with an intaglio vignette at left reproducing a detail from his monumental panel Tiradentes (1949). The face value inscriptions of the underlying 5,000 Cruzados note (P#214) are retained, overlaid by a violet triangular overprint stamp bearing the revalued denomination of 5 Cruzados Novos.

Reverse description The reverse retains the layout of the original 5,000 Cruzados note, with a vignette at left drawn from Portinari's Baianas panel and a second compositional vignette at right evoking pastoral scenes associated with his Paz panel and his childhood in Brodósqui, São Paulo state. The new denomination overprint is applied over the original face value numerals, which remain legible within the overall design.
