Beschrijving voorzijde	Olive-green intaglio print on multicolor underprint. Central vignette shows a woman on a path beside a fence, carrying food baskets balanced on her head and a pineapple in hand, rendered in a classical engraved style. Denomination numerals and bank title appear within ornate guilloche borders framing the composition.

Beschrijving keerzijde	Green intaglio print on plain ground. A circular portrait vignette at center contains a bust of Christopher Columbus, identified by the inscription CRISTOBAL COLON beneath the medallion. Denomination numeral 5 and the Roman numeral V appear in ornate guilloche roundels to the left and right, with scrollwork borders framing the entire design. The date San Salvador, 5 de Enero de 1954 is printed in the lower right field, and the printer's imprint WATERLOW & SONS LIMITED, LONDRES appears at the bottom margin.
