Obverse description Olive-green intaglio print on multicolor underprint. Central vignette shows a woman on a path beside a fence, carrying food baskets balanced on her head and a pineapple in hand, rendered in a classical engraved style. Denomination numerals and bank title appear within ornate guilloche borders framing the composition.
Obverse lettering BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DE EL SALVADOR PAGARÁ AL PORTADOR DE ACUERDO COM EL ARTÍCULO 39 DE SU LEY CONSTITUTIVA 5 CINCO COLONES SAN SALVADOR 6 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 1952

Reverse description Green intaglio print on plain ground. A circular portrait vignette at center contains a bust of Christopher Columbus, identified by the inscription CRISTOBAL COLON beneath the medallion. Denomination numeral 5 and the Roman numeral V appear in ornate guilloche roundels to the left and right, with scrollwork borders framing the entire design. The date San Salvador, 5 de Enero de 1954 is printed in the lower right field, and the printer's imprint WATERLOW & SONS LIMITED, LONDRES appears at the bottom margin.
