The arc legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and LOUISIANA PURCHASE curve along the upper rim, with the commemorative date 1803 inscribed in the upper central field. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in two lines in the lower central field, with FIVE CENTS arcing along the bottom rim.
