| Obverse description | Uncrowned, bare-headed effigy of King George VI facing left, modelled by sculptor T. Shingles after the portrait by Humphrey Paget, with engraver's initials 'HP' visible at the truncation of the neck. The circumscribed Latin legend reads GEORGIVS VI D:G: REX ET IND:IMP:, running clockwise around the periphery of the twelve-sided flan. The field is plain and the design fills the dodecagonal format with a strong, naturalistic portrait in high relief. |
